About Us


Hello!  Our names are Ruben and Brenda Barrett, and for several years now we have been burdened with the idea of starting a new church here in Memphis.  "A new church in Memphis?" you might ask.  Yes. We believe that God has called us to cast a vision for and provide leadership to a new network of home fellowships that we call "Mid-South Church."  

Abraham, Scripture tells us, by faith foresaw a city which didn't exist yet.  And we can relate.  Our dream is not yet a reality, but is in its conception stage.  Like Abram and Sarai, we feel like travelers on a journey of faith.  We don't have all the answers.  We don't claim to be experts.  But we believe that God wants to do something special in our city and we desire to join Him in this adventure.


Mid-South Church is an informal Christian fellowship right here in Memphis.  We meet in our homes, and are trusting God to build us into the church He wants us to be.  We desire to be an international church who demonstrates the racial & ethnic harmony made possible through Jesus Christ.

 

THE VISION
God first planted this vision in our hearts as a seed back in 1994 while working with an existing new cell church in the city of Memphis. This wonderful church only met for a few years, but the idea remained in our hearts over the next 12 years. Then in 2006 God began to unsettle us in a strange way. We were both doing what we loved in life, and by all definitions should have been very content, but weren't. As we continued in prayer & fasting, sought counsel from various sources, and put the vision on paper, God confirmed the call in various ways. By the Spring of 2007 we felt confident of the call to begin this new work. What began as an idea has become a conviction, and what was once a "could be" has now become a "must be." As we share this vision with people, the most common comments we hear are, "That's what I've been looking for!" and "that sounds like the book of Acts!"  Please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
